West L.A. Music Presents Latin Rock at Its Best:
The Winners of the Battle of the Bandas!

LOS ANGELES, CA — On November 20th at the Key Club and on November 21st at the Knitting Factory, West L.A. Music presented a Battle of the Bandas, an exciting Latin rock talent search. Over 500 people showed up to cheer for their favorites. The event was emceed by KJLA producer and on-air personality, Flavio Morales. Out of 50 Latin rock demos received at Las Noches del Dragón, 20 bands battled it out for incredible prizes.

A jury comprised of seven industry officials from the press, music and recording industries judged the bands; including: Tomás Cookman, CEO, Cookman International; Marcelo Rey, Entertainment Editor, La Opinion/ La Vibra; John Avila, Music Producer & Musician; Laffite Benitez, A&R, EMI Music; Darrell Rhodes, Advertising Director, West L.A. Music; and Johnny Vatos Hernandez, legendary drummer (formerly of Oingo Boingo and Psychotic Aztecs).

The first place winner--Ruido de Fondo--received five days of professional studio recording time in the studio of legendary producer and musician John Avila (formerly of Oingo Boingo). Ruido de Fondo also performed at the November 21st Las Noches Del Dragón C.D. release party for Voz de Mano. The members of Ruido de Fondo are Arturo Gonzales (guitar, keys and vocals), Miguel Ancel Ramirez (guitar), Jose Juan Garcia (bass), and Alejandro Arroyo (drums and samples). They also won an SWR Silverado combo amp and a Fender '65 reissue guitar amp.

The second place winner--Mona for Now--received a Shure UT wireless mic system and Paiste cymbals. The members of Mona for Now are Fabian Ruiz (guitar), Shiela Gonzales (vocals), Lisa Sanchez (bass) and Rich Pancani (drums). The third place winner, Omar Vielma, took home Peavy drums as his prize.
