Grooves on the Move (“GOTM”) is a program created by music industry and civic leaders to expose inner-city youth, ages 14 to 20, to various careers in the entertainment industry, including music, music production, and audio recording.
Our goal is to connect disadvantaged, yet deserving Los Angeles youth with resources that will allow them to see their own potential, by providing hands-on access to state-of-the-art recording equipment and musical instruments, plus the opportunity to be motivated and mentored by established artists, recording engineers, and producers, who have come together to develop this program and volunteer their services.

Current programs and activities:
By utilizing a self-contained mobile bus outfitted with a recording studio, multiple production workstations and musical instruments, Grooves on the Move travels to established programs throughout the city to teach and inspire inner city youth.
The mobile studio will offer music and recording activities for a hands-on, in-depth experience.

Current programs include the following:

Summer Night Lights Program
GOTM will operate in conjunction with Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa’s Summer Night Lights (SNL), gang reduction program. Launched in 2008 by the Mayor’s Office of Gang Reduction and Youth Development, Summer Night Lights provides a safe environment for families to enjoy their local parks during the summer, without fear of gang violence. City parks in at-risk areas are open until 12-midnight, keeping kids engaged and active - and out of gangs. Crime rates have dropped by 40% in targeted areas. This summer, Grooves on the Move brings audio recording equipment and musical instruments, along with industry professionals to 24 Los Angeles parks, and builds on the measurable success of SNL.

Los Angeles Unified School District Program
During the school year GOTM will travel to Los Angeles public schools and community centers to provide students with music, audio recording and production experience, no longer offered by most schools.

Groves on the Move will become a premier and replicable model that teaches youth the fundamentals of audio engineering and music recording. Through partnerships with a variety of community agencies across the city, GOTM unites diverse cultures and empowers young people through art. These youth will blossom, flourish, and recognize that they hold the power to positively shape and redefine their communities and their future.
