LOS ANGELES, CA — West L.A. Music and SWR recently presented a bass guitar clinic clinic featuring Jimmy Haslip, bassist for the Grammy Award winning Jazz Fusion group the Yellowjackets. Jimmy performed with a sextet that included Steve Weingart on keyboards, Gary Meed on saxophone, Jimmy Branley on drums, Cokey Garcia on percussion, and Raul Pinedo on percussion. Jimmy is known for his work with Chaka Kahn, Al Jarreau, David Sanborn and many others.
The event was held at the West Los Angeles Civic Center outdoor ampitheatre. Jimmy explained how he plays the Afro-Cuban Rhumba rhythm, an explosive rhythm that originated in Africa and is featured on his latest album "Red Heat." Jimmy taught about scales, rhythm and harmony, arranged in a logical way for easy reference, and answered questions about improving improvisation, soloing, picking and fingering techniques.
Guest's had the opportunity to see Jimmy1s bass system, featuring the SWR Mo1BASS, which offers 6 studio quality analog effects, tone, power and world-renowned SWR reliability. SWR gave away a LA 8, 30 watt combo amp and SWR T-shirts.
